Posted on Updated on

More than 100 golfers came out in support of Child Advocates on Monday, September 15 to support Child Advocates of Silicon Valley and foster children in Santa Clara Valley.  The event raised over $100K!

Players had a chance to win a Tesla, but it seemed their nerves got the best of them as they tried to drive the ball 155 yards in hopes of scoring a Hole-In-One.  Other prizes were had throughout the day, and it was a fun day in the sun for all who participated.

A highlight of the dinner event, was when Westminister Promotions was named this year’s winner of the Skip Shaw Award, given to the company that most exemplified Skip’s selfless dedication to foster children and to the community.

Earth, Wind and Fire Backstage Tour and Concert were a Big Hit!

Nine foster youth ages 12 to 20 years old and their CASAs were treated to a backstage tour and concert at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga by Earth, Wind and Fire (EWF). It was all made possible by the Music is Unity (MIU) Foundation founded by Philip Bailey, longtime vocalist and band member of EWF.

During the tour, foster youth and CASAs listened to the sound check where Philip Bailey asked if there were any musicians in the house. One lucky young man (Stefan) was invited to be on stage and play guitar with the band after acknowledging he plays 18 instruments!

Afterward, MIU introduced everyone to the EWF professionals and the roles they play that make it possible to put on a show of EWF caliber.  The foster youth met with the production manager, the costume designer, the sound mixer, the lighting specialist,  and of course the band, and had an opportunity to ask questions about how they arrived at their professions as well as pros and cons of their various roles.  All were then taken on a historical tour of the grounds courtesy of the Mountain Winery who also provided dinner for the youth and their CASAs.  Once the concert started, everyone in the crowd was on their feet and the foster youth and CASAs experienced the high energy show in the first and third rows.

One 14 year old foster youth summed up the evening by expressing, “Tonight was a blast!”
